Do The Work

"Do The Work!"

The Peridot

In high school, when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say an editor-in-chief of a magazine, like Khadijah James from Living Single.  I wanted to create my own print publication, but The Great Recession made that dream a fleeting aspiration.

The idea of The Peridot was incepted on New Year 2014, I purchased the domain, but the website laid dormant for a few more years. I was distracted by life, relationships, and a full time job that could actually pay my bills.

Recently, I felt stunted, professionally and creatively.  I did not have an outlet that allowed me to express my interest.  I was not reading or writing, which impacted my vocabulary in conversation. I was unsatisfied with my cognitive development post traditional mandated public school education; and I was the only one responsible for my self-development. I needed to challenge myself.

I decided to dust off my old idea for the unused domain, and like Khadijah James, launch my own version of “Flavor.” I am the editor-in-chief of The Peridot Network.

Skills are perishable, if we fail to practice to sustain them.  If we do not cultivate our talents, use them, share them, we will waste our potential.

The lesson that life has taught me, is that you have to do the work. You just have to do it.  Whatever IT takes. Nike has a perfect motto: “Just do it.”

It requires work.  The work is not always hard.  No one said that it would always be easy, either, but it requires some effort.  The transaction is the transformation of the energy.

I was out of shape, because I was being lazy.  I had to reassess my goals and aspirations.  I had to redefine my desire to accomplish those self assigned missions. Ask myself what I really wanted and why?

I found that I was wasting so much time and I grew tired of my lack of discipline.  It is time to back up my words and my thoughts with action.  It will not be perfect. I am looking forward to this journey. I am looking forward to experience the growth.

Rest was a necessary part of the plan.  I am well-rested.  This is the execution phase.  I know what I need to do, so I just have to do it.

Below share some of your goals, link up with an accountability partner, and share ways you remain diligent in doing the work.
