#TITATIAT: New Year's Eve

Today is Thursday and this is a throwback, is an obnoxiously long hashtag and a short nostalgic rich talk show presented by The Peridot.

Our first segment is #TodayInHistory. According to onthisday.com on December 31, 1904 The First New Year’s Eve Celebration is held in Times Square, then called Long Acre Square, in New York City.

December 31, 1958 Cuban Dictator Fulgencio Batista tells his cabinet he is fleeing the country, this bit of history is referenced in my favorite movie of all time, Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather II, and this Thursday’s #ThrowbackVHS.

Godfather II, released on December 20, 1974, is the compelling sequel to “The Godfather,” contrasting the life of Corleone father and son.  Al Pacino stars as Michael Corleone and Robert De Niro stars as young immigrant Vito Corleone. The movie traces the problems of Michael in 1958 and Vito in 1917’s Hell’s Kitchen. Michael survives many misfortunes and Vito is introduced to a life of crime.

Shoutout to the green energy boxes. This Thursday’s #Throwback. In my neighborhood the green energy box was a place of refuge. It provided a comfortable place to sit after walking for miles around the block in the summer heat; and an easily identifiable place to be safe from “It” when playing tag.
