#TITATIAT November 4th

Today is Thursday and this is a throwback…is an obnoxiously long hashtag and a nostalgic rich talk show presented by The Peridot.

Today In History. On November 4, 1922, British archaeologists Howard Carter discovered a step leading to the entrance of King Tutankhamen tomb, the who was enthroned in 1333 B.C. when he was just nine years old and ruled until his death in 1323 B.C.

22 days later, on November 26, 1922 Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon (Kaar Nr Vaan), an Earl and collector of antiquities who commissioned Carter to supervise excavations in the Valley of the Kings, broke through another door that revealed the untouched antechamber. They were the first souls to enter King Tut’s tomb in over 3000 years.

What else happened on today?

November 4,1879 African American inventor Thomas Elkins patents a refrigerating apparatus.

November 4 2008, Barack Obama becomes the first African American to be elected President of the United States, defeating Republican candidate John McCain.

You know what time it is?

What time is it?

It’s time for #1 Song of the day! This week The Peridot’s Playlist presents the songs of November 4th. Here is a compilation of 16 years worth of number one hits that topped the charts on the 4th day of November. Listen on Spotify.

This week’s throwback is dedicated to Homecoming. H-O-M-E-C-O-M-I-N-G, It’s Homecoming, y’all! Say what! It’s Homecoming, y’all! Homecoming is an annual tradition of welcoming back former students and members and celebrating an organizations existence. It is a tradition in many high schools, colleges and churches in the United States and Canada.

Some of my favorite things about homecoming season is getting your fit off walking across the Yard. The parade, football game, the marching band showing out during the half time and in the stands, and the fish plates at the tail gate!

There is nothing like homecoming on an HBCU’s campus, historically black college/univeristy, and the greatest of them all is GHOE at the illustrious North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Can I get an Aggie Pride!?! AGGIE PRIDE!!! I could not make it to GHOE this year because...Lord willing, I’m in there next year!

Enjoy these flicks from GHOE’s past for this week’s Throwback Photos.

This brings us to this week’s throwback VHS School Daze a 1988 musical comedy drama film written and directed by Spike Lee, his second feature film. It stars Laurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Esposito, and Tisha Campbell. Based in part on Spike Lee’s experiences as a Morehouse student, it is a story about undergraduates in a fraternity and sorority clashing with some of their classmates at a HBCU during homecoming weekend. The movie touches upon issues of colorism, elitism, classism, political activism, hazing, groupthink, female self-esteem, social mobility, and hair texture bias within the Black community.

Well that concludes our show. Don’t forget to listen to The Peridot’s Playlist on Spotify subscribe to The Peridot Network on Youtube and Soundclound and follow The Peridot Net on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter.
